The Arctic countries have common challenges and interests linked to future changes in climate and environment. The changes could have significant consequences for the countries, societies and the people that will face these challenges and opportunities.

It is important to get more systematic knowledge about what new framework rapid environmental and climate change creates for economic activities. Therefore the 2012 Arctic Council ministerial meeting decided to initiate a project (Adaptation Actions for a Changing Arctic – AACA) where the aim is to compile data on the rapid changes in the Arctic and consider the challenges the Arctic face in order to adapt to them.

The project will consider changes in as well short as (2030-2040) long term (up to 2080).

The project is an ongoing effort to assess climate, environmental and socio-economic issues in the Arctic. AACA has produced comprehensive information to assist local decision-makers and stakeholders in Arctic regions to develop adaption tools and strategies to deal with climate change. Read more here.
