Arctic User Knowledge Network: From Local to Global

The project will initiate transatlantic cooperation, giving fishermen and other resource users a voice in the international management bodies that advise the Arctic authorities on resource management and climate adaptation.

This will enable small remote settlements to survive in a sustainable manner. The project will establish a dialogue between the interest organizations of small-scale Arctic resource users, amongst others the Association of Fishermen and Hunters in Greenland, and the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board in Canada, and key international management bodies.

The aim is to exchange experiences and stimulate increased practical use of local knowledge in the management bodies' advisory services. The project will lead to enhanced capacity, better tools, and a network that supports innovative policies for the robust use of local knowledge in international bodies.

The project is led by NORDECO with the participation of the Stockholm Resilience Centre, Sweden, and Centre for Northern People, Norway.
