Green Christiansø island in Denmark

The Christiansø island seeks to change current energy sources into renewable energy and become a “green” place.

The island is a part of the Ertholmene archipelago which is owned by the Danish State and belongs to the Danish Ministry of Defense. The Christiansø island is inhabited by approximately 90 people. And the society receives energy by three diesel driven generators.

In March 2019, the Ministry of Defense announced the wish to replace the diesel engines with wind energy and a storage solution in the shape of a hydrogen facility on the island. This would make Christiansø “green” island, 100 % based on sustainable energy. The initiative is envisioned to be finalized in 2022.
